Haven't posted in a while..trying to catch up..when there isn't a post for a while, it counter-intuitively means that there has been a lot of activity going on!
Thanks to everyone out there on web that's emailed such great feedback on the site! Special shout out to www.studentfilmmakers.com whose visitors have been particularly responsive!
So I've been reviewing DP reels and talking to pyrotechnicians. Will hopefully be making a decision soon on the director of photography. I've shot all my own stuff up until now, but want this project to be a collaborative effort with another creative type...
Talking to pyrotechnicians has been cool too. I was originally planning to use compressed air for the gunshot sequences. This technique is best seen in the new Dawn of the Dead movie. The DVD's got some awesome behind the scenes of how those fx were done. But there are some limitations and it looks like good old fashioned squibs may be what we need. Squibs are small rigged explosives placed under clothes and beneath a blood pack so that when it's triggered it blows through the blook pack and clothes to look like a gun shot wound..pretty cool...Only issue right now is that they average $50/squib..so if my bodygaurd actor gets peppered with 10 shots that's $500!! Hope I don't need a second take!
More later!
