That's right it's free to watch online!! I should have done this a while ago, but i've been busy writing the sequel and enjoying personal time! enjoy!
Deployment Strategy the Official Trailer is now online!!! I've got tons of different media formats for your viewing pleasure! come see!
w00t!! it's finally done! For past month, work on 3D animated shots has been rapid fire. I wanted to post some progress shots, but decided to wait until it was all complete to show you the finished work along with progress shots.
Why? Cuz there will inevitably be someone who watches a pre-vis sequence and snickers, "the resolution is so low!!!" when the point is to focus on composition, blocking, and animation. so here's the reel of final shots.
In the coming days, i'll have more stills and materials in this post to show you how it all unfolded. for now, click read more and enjoy the shots!!
04/09/07 Just posted some supplementary materials!!
here's the 411: I've completed the last of the computer user-interfaces that appear throughout the film. I didn't realize I had so many of them! The Major's computer appears 3-4 times, the Multibody has one, and so does the sexbot!! I'll be posting clips soon as well as sketches I drafted on paper before designing in photoshop and compositing them.
3D animation is going well. there are 12 shots total and we're in round 2 revisions for 4 of them and round 1 for another 3...Those ArtDuck guys are awesome!! I plan to show you the evolution of them once I have a completed shot. I realized from showing ppl intermediary shots that it's difficult to understand what's done and what's not done.
Finally!!! after a long and exhaustive search, i've finally found a vendor for the 3D animation for the film. Art Duck Studios (www.artduck.com) will tackle the 12 3D animation effects for the film. A dozen doesn't sound like a lot, but they sure are money shots man!! I'll post more in time and hopefully have some WIPs (work-in-progress, guys) to show you as we move ahead. For now, you can check out a previous blog entry about the 3D spec materials i was showing around for an RFP (request for propsal, guys). Yay!!
As i mentioned in the earlier post, i've been looking for a 3D animator. Here are some rough documents I put together in my RFP to explain to potential animators what I'm looking for.
I have photo plates that will be used for backgrounds, I have the 3D models and textures. These images are my way of showing storyboards as well as what elements I already have prepared. The idea is to give them as much information you have about not just the materials and assets, but also how you're visualizing the shots to look like. So, I've included photoshop composites I made from the modellers' work-in-progress shots. Click to enlarge:
just got the issue in the mail! August issue of Student Filmmakers has a 5 page spread on Deployment Strategy.
While not technically a student film, our movie has been of great interest to aspiring filmmakers and has served (so I've heard) as a testiment to what can be done with enough energy and drive.
Time for an update! First off- there will be more updates more often from now on. I promise!! In this post- updates on soundtrack, sound mixing, 3D effects, 2D effects, and more!! so read on!
Soundtrack My good friend and music composer, Chris Haigh has been hard at work on the soundtrack. Although we've had some bad luck in making our weekly video conferences - scheduling, computer, and network problems!!- we've still managed to make a lot of progress. Last week Chris sent me his newest compositions in wav file format.
The way we've been working is like this: He lives in England, I live in NJ, so we rely on the internet for correspondence. We'll email each other over night, sometimes he'll catch me while I'm at work and we'll talk over IM. And, when possible, we'll video conference together. That actually is the best since we can talk and gesture, and Chris can hop on his keyboard to play me something, and I can use my hands and facial expressions to convey ideas I can't articulate!
pretty darn sweet. here are some images of the completed models and texturing for the Homeland Security Cyber Crime HQ and a hover bus...more after the jump...
So the modelling and textures are now complete for these models. They now will be animated and dropped into the film's rough cut.
